It was a non-alcoholic cereal beverage intended to reduce the impact of Prohibition on the brewery. August A. Busch, Sr. chose a fox to help brand his new product. The Bevo Fox, nattily attired in forest outfit, appeared in print advertising, on trays and metal signs, and on the bottle caps of Bevo. He was based on Reynard the Fox, a well-known fairy tale character of the time. Reynard was a crafty woodland creature that always knew how to find a good meal.While Bevo the product was short-lived, the Bevo Fox still remains an important part of Anheuser-Busch lore. In fact, his statue still adorns the four corners of the Bevo Bottling Plant, symbolizing the "survival and triumph of craft".
